Water shortages in hot months can disrupt daily life. These checks show how a building stores and supplies water before you commit.
Why summer is different
In the hot months demand rises and supply can drop in some areas, so buildings depend on their own storage and pumping. Two buildings on the same road can have very different water reliability.
Ask how the building gets its water
- Supply source: WASA line, a deep tube well, or both
- Underground reservoir and rooftop tank capacity
- How often the pump runs and who operates it
- What happens when the pump or the power fails
Check the water itself
At the viewing, open the taps in the kitchen and bathroom, ideally on an upper floor. Check pressure, colour and smell, and ask when the tanks were last cleaned; regular cleaning matters for health.
Talk to current tenants
Ask neighbours how many hours a day water runs in summer and whether they buy drinking water or use filters. Tenant feedback on BariViews includes water reliability for many buildings.
Prepare before summer
Budget for drinking water or a filter, keep a container for short outages and agree in writing who pays for pump repairs and tank cleaning.
