Three popular areas with very different trade-offs. Compare commute, space, schools and typical rent before you choose.
Value is more than rent
The best value depends on your daily commute, the space you need, access to schools and hospitals and how reliable the utilities are. A cheaper flat with a long daily commute can cost more in time and transport.
Dhanmondi
Central and well established, with many schools, hospitals and the lake. Rents are generally higher and buildings vary a lot in age, so check the lift, parking, water and gas carefully.
Mirpur
Large and varied, with a wide range of rents and many family flats. The metro rail has improved journeys to the centre for homes near its stations, so check the walking distance to a station and traffic on your own route.
Uttara
Planned sectors, wider roads and easy access to the airport and the north of the city. Families often find more space for the rent than in central areas; journeys to south Dhaka can be long, and the metro helps near its stations.
How to compare them
- Check each area's typical rent on its BariViews area page
- Time your commute at rush hour
- Visit at different times of day
- Read tenant feedback on water, gas, security and waterlogging
